CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar — Nearly 3,000 residents of Catbalogan City who bore the brunt of Typhoon Uwan received much-needed relief assistance from the office of Leyte 1st District Representative Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and the Tingog Partylist, as the province struggles to recover from two successive storms.
Catbalogan City was among the hardest-hit areas when Typhoon Uwan struck Eastern Visayas, just days after the region had been battered by Typhoon Tino. Many residents had barely begun to rebuild their homes when Uwan’s strong winds and heavy rains caused fresh destruction.
Local officials confirmed the death of a 64-year-old woman from Barangay 3, Poblacion, who perished at the height of the storm. The majority of affected families were residents of the coastal zones of Barangay 3, particularly Purok 6, which sustained severe damage.
On November 10, 2025, the office of Former Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Tingog Partylist mobilized a relief mission to Catbalogan City, distributing essential supplies to displaced families temporarily sheltering at the Samar National High School, one of the city’s main evacuation centers.
The relief packs included rice, instant noodles, canned sardines, biscuits, coffee, blankets, and pails—basic necessities that brought comfort to families struggling to recover from the consecutive storms.
“Our hearts go out to the people of Catbalogan and the rest of Samar who continue to endure the impact of these back-to-back typhoons,” Rep. Romualdez said. “Through Tingog Partylist, we will continue working closely with local governments to ensure that help reaches every family in need.”
The ongoing relief effort is part of Tingog Partylist’s broader humanitarian campaign to support Eastern Visayas communities affected by recent calamities, reaffirming their commitment to helping residents rebuild their lives in the wake of Typhoons Tino and Uwan.
