CATBALOGAN CITY — A robbery and assault incident was reported at around 3:50 a.m. on January 22, 2026, in the Salug District, Barangay 1, Catbalogan City, Samar.
The victim was identified as Pablo Dacles Mabingnay, an 80-year-old senior citizen, unemployed, and a resident of Barangay San Vicente, Catbalogan City.
The suspect was identified as Larry Abaincia Raquel, of legal age, single, unemployed, and a resident of Barangay 9, Catbalogan City, Samar.
Personnel from Catbalogan City Police Station immediately responded to the incident, led by Duty Investigator Wences P. Gabon, under the supervision of PLTCOL Norman Ala, Acting Chief of Police.
Based on the initial investigation, at around 10:20 a.m. on the same day, the victim, along with a witness, went to the Catbalogan City Police Station to seek police assistance. Authorities determined that while the victim was asleep, the suspect allegedly appeared and, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, demanded money. The suspect then physically assaulted the victim and forcefully took ₱900.00 in cash.
A hot pursuit operation was immediately conducted, resulting in the arrest of the suspect in Barangay 9, Catbalogan City. The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights under the Miranda Doctrine and was brought to the police station for proper disposition.
Charges related to the incident are now being prepared by authorities.
