TACLOBAN CITY – Determination filled the air in Tacloban City last week as 140 young Boy and Girl Scouts from Leyte Progressive High School conquered the challenge of a rigorous, two-day Obstacle Course Activity sponsored by the Philippine Army.

Held on October 23 and 24, 2025, the activity tested not only the participants’ physical strength but also their camaraderie, leadership qualities essential to both Scouting and nation-building.

Under the guidance of 1LT Jerrycho C. David (FS) PA, the CMO Officer of the Joint Task Group Tacloban,  the scouts- 70 boys and 70 girls ranging from grade school to high school, engaged in a series of physically demanding and mentally challenging exercises. From scaling walls to navigating rugged terrain, each task required determination, teamwork and trust.

“It wasn’t just about completing the course,” said Lieutenant David. “It was about helping these young individuals discover their resilience and the power of unity and teamwork.”

Throughout the program, the scouts realized that success stemmed not from individual skill but from collective effort.  With each obstacle, they honed their communication, leadership, and empathy skills, values that extend far beyond the course itself.

For the Philippine Army, initiatives like this are vital for engaging and empowering local youth.  This activity reflects the Army’s commitment to youth development, fostering discipline, patriotism, and community spirit in the next generation of leaders.

‘ By investing in our youth through activities like this, we shape future citizens who are resilient and prepared to serve their communities,’ Lt. David emphasized.

As the sun set on October 24, the once cautious scouts stood taller, physically drained yet emotionally revitalized.  They not only received certificates and made memories, but also gained increased confidence, stronger bonds,  and a deeper appreciation for the values of resilience and cooperation.

The success of this event demonstrates what can be achieved when community institutions come together to nurture our youth, the most valuable asset of our nation.
