Rolly Magallanes — Tacloban City BJMP Jail Warden J/Supt. Jim Arisa Buranday reaffirmed his commitment to improving inmate welfare during a press conference held on November 12, announcing a strengthened partnership with the City Health Office to ensure weekly medical checkups for all persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
Buranday clarified that the expanded health initiative became possible through the full support of the city government, which has also backed programs on livelihood and education for inmates. According to him, each PDL currently receives a ₱70 daily subsistence fund, a crucial resource for their basic needs.
In a move to further humanize and dignify the conditions inside the facility, the warden disclosed that the jail now has eight fully air-conditioned rooms designed to accommodate couples during scheduled visits. He emphasized that these improvements reflect his administration’s sincere effort to maintain a safer, more humane, and rehabilitative environment inside the detention center.
“We are trying our best to uplift their quality of life while they are under our custody,” Buranday said, underscoring his aim to maximize reforms for as long as he leads the facility.
