TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — The Traffic Operation Management Enforcement Control Office (TOMECO) is gearing up for the surge of holiday activities as the Christmas season approaches. During a press conference held on November 14, Administrative Assistant Ret. Col. Restituto Reglos outlined the agency’s preparations to ensure smoother traffic flow across the city.
According to Reglos, a major rerouting scheme will be implemented next week, affecting routes from the southern entry point through Independencia all the way to Santa Cruz, including the busy university belt area. He emphasized that the adjustments were designed to minimize congestion as thousands are expected to flock to the city center for shopping, events, and holiday gatherings.
Reglos added that TOMECO will also conduct seminars for drivers and operators to fully orient them on the updated road network and designated passages. “We want everyone—drivers, commuters, and businesses—to be prepared. This rerouting is for the safety and convenience of all,” he said.
He noted that downtown Tacloban will be the primary focus of traffic management operations this season, as it remains the most crowded point of commercial activity. TOMECO, he assured, will work to “make mobility better and more orderly” especially during peak hours.
As part of stricter enforcement, Reglos also issued a reminder: vehicles parked in prohibited areas will be issued penalty tickets by TOMECO personnel deputized by the Land Transportation Office (LTO). He urged the public to cooperate and follow parking rules to avoid inconvenience.
With Christmas just weeks away, TOMECO hopes that these measures will help keep Tacloban’s streets safer, more organized, and ready for the festive rush.
