PALO, LEYTE — Hundreds of residents participated in the “Run Beyond Stigma 2025” fun run, which took place on December 8, at the Leyte Provincial Government Complex as part of the World AIDS Day celebration organized by the Department of Health–Eastern Visayas (DOH-EV CHD) and the Leyte Provincial Health Office.

Under this year’s theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response,” the event aimed to move beyond basic awareness and encourage stronger community action against HIV stigma and discrimination.

Participants from various sectors, including health workers, local government units, advocates, volunteers, and community members, joined the early morning run. Organizers stated that the event symbolized the importance of progressing together in understanding HIV and supporting those affected.

Following the run, the program continued with messages from health officials and an HIV 101 session that covered essential information about HIV, modes of transmission, and prevention measures. Attendees also took part in a community commitment pledge to enhance collective support for the local HIV response.

On-site, free HIV screening and counseling services were provided, offering participants direct access to vital health care. Additionally, the DOH distributed condoms and lubricants to promote safe practices.

Organizers stressed that the event not only served as a fitness activity but also as a community initiative to help create a stigma-free environment in Leyte. They highlighted that the significant turnout demonstrates the growing public support for HIV education and compassionate health programs in Eastern Visayas.
