The Tacloban City Police Office has recommended enhanced security measures for hotels and other lodging establishments after an unidentified female was discovered deceased in a hotel room on Thursday, December 22, 2025. The victim was determined to have died alone and was located in Room 10, Comfort Room, D “New” Inn Hotel on Esperas Avenue, Barangay 52.

According to Police Major Kent Rivas, Chief of Police of Tacloban City Police Station 1, the hotel’s management first contacted the guests in Room 10 approximately three (3) hours prior to the end of the check-out schedule at 3:50 p.m., but received no response. A second attempt to reach the guests an hour later failed as well.

At 5:40 p.m., a hotel maintenance team leader named Efren Gerez Magadan went to the room to investigate and found the deceased female, dressed in a brown T-shirt and black pants.

Immediately after discovering the deceased, the hotel notified the barangay officials and the Tacloban City Police Department, resulting in the response of the Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) Team to gather and process evidence from the crime scene.

Major Rivas, indicated the necessity for hotels and lodging establishments to adhere to stricter criminal justice compliance for the protection of citizens and public safety.

“This tragic event serves as a caution for individuals to take care of themselves, know and detect who they are associating with in their lives,” Major Rivas said.
