TACLOBAN CITY – The Tacloban City government is taking new action to address persistent flooding in Zone 6, Barangay 110, aiming for a long-term solution.
For years, families in Zone 6 have been dealing with recurring floods, caused by both natural factors and infrastructural shortcomings.
The community is located on low-lying land with a high water table, making it particularly vulnerable to flooding.
Additionally, the absence of a proper drainage system has left residents at the mercy of rising water levels.
When the latest flooding incident was reported, Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez wasted no time and instructed the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to respond immediately. Engineers promptly implemented a temporary solution by digging a makeshift earth ditch.
This ditch now diverts stagnant water towards the existing main drainage line, providing residents with much-needed immediate relief.

Vice Mayor Raymund Romualdez emphasized that while this is not the ultimate solution, it is crucial for offering quick relief while a more comprehensive, permanent fix is being developed.
To address the flooding issue comprehensively, the city has announced plans to conduct a thorough topographic survey of Brgy. 110. This survey will map out the barangay’s canals, roads, natural waterways, and elevation changes.
The results will serve as the basis for designing a drainage system that suits the barangay’s unique geography and water flow patterns.
City engineers highlight that this survey is a crucial step to ensure that the future drainage system will be effective and sustainable, focusing on prevention rather than just reacting to flooding.
Vice Mayor Romualdez is encouraging residents to actively participate in this process.
