TACLOBAN CITY — An ordinary afternoon in Barangay 62A, Sagkahan quickly turned into a decisive law enforcement action as authorities dismantled a suspected drug den and arrested four individuals during an anti-drug operation on April 13, 2026.

The operation, classified as a High Impact Operation, showcases the intensified campaign of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and its partner units to combat illegal drug activities within residential communities.

Based on gathered intelligence and reports from concerned residents, operatives from the PDEA Northern Samar Provincial Office spearheaded the mission, with support from the Regional Special Enforcement Team, Tacloban City Office, Regional Intelligence Division, and personnel from the Philippine National Police Tacloban City Police Station 1.

At 2:58 p.m., authorities conducted a buy-bust operation resulting in the arrest of the primary target, identified as “Wewen,” 48, along with three alleged associates known by their aliases “Onad,” “Ding,” and “Junjun.”

Seized during the operation were approximately 15 grams of suspected shabu, valued at P67,500, with a standard value of P102,000. Investigators confirmed that part of the confiscated drugs came from the actual transaction with an undercover operative, while additional sachets were believed to be intended for distribution.

Authorities also found drug paraphernalia, including disposable lighters, rolled tin foils, and an improvised bamboo sealer, indicating drug use and repackaging activities within the premises. The marked P500 bill used in the operation and an additional P545 in cash were also confiscated.

Officials confirmed that the location was being maintained as a drug den, a site where illegal drugs are sold, used, or both. Its dismantling marks a crucial disruption of localized drug operations in Tacloban City.

Law enforcement stressed that drug dens often serve as central hubs for the distribution and use of illegal substances, making them high-priority targets in anti-drug campaigns.

The four suspects are now facing multiple charges under Republic Act No. 9165, including the sale and possession of illegal drugs, maintenance of a drug den, and possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted, they could face severe penalties, including long-term imprisonment.

Authorities highlighted that the success of the operation reflects stronger inter-agency coordination and a continued shift toward intelligence-driven enforcement strategies. However, officials acknowledged that the broader fight against illegal drugs remains ongoing.

For residents of Barangay 62-A, the operation brings a sense of relief and renewed hope for a safer neighborhood. Authorities continue to urge the public to report suspicious activities, emphasizing that community cooperation remains vital in sustaining anti-drug efforts.

As investigations progress, authorities are also investigating possible links between the arrested individuals and larger drug networks in the region, an effort that may lead to further operations in the coming days.

With another drug den shut down, Tacloban City takes a step forward while the broader campaign against illegal drugs presses on.
