Soldiers from the 14th Infantry Battalion clashed with members of the NPA early this morning, October 15, 2025, at Barangay Caraye, Javier, Leyte.

According to reports, soldiers from the 14th Infantry Battalion were conducting focused security operations in the area when they encountered remnants of the dismantled Island Committee LEVOX, a group linked to the Communist Party of the Philippines. A brief exchange of gunfire occurred, after which the armed men retreated. Troops later recovered one improvised Garand rifle, ammunition, and several personal items left behind at the site.

Authorities stated that the recovery of these materials ia crucial in preventing future harm and maintaining the safety of civilians in nearby communities.

Major General Adonis Ariel Orio, Commander of the 8th Infantry Division, commended the soldiers for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in Eastern Visayas.

“Our goal is not just to end armed conflict but to build an environment where peace, stability, and progress can truly take root.” Major General Orio said. ” We continue to work closely with local governments and communities to make this vision a reality.”

Lieutenant Colonel Esmeraldo Sumalinog, commanding officer of the 14th Infantry Battalion, also expressed his gratitude to local residents for their continuous support and cooperation.

” The trust and unity of the people are at the heart of every peace effort,” he said. “When the community and the army stand together, lasting peace becomes possible.”

The 8th Infantry Division once again urged the remaining members of NPA to lay down their arms and take advantage of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program, which offers former rebels assistance, livelihood support, and a chance to rebuild their lives within the confines of the law.

Officials stressed that true peace can only be achieved through compassion, understanding, and the combined efforts of both the government and citizens towards a more secure and hopeful Eastern Visayas.
