TACLOBAN CITY — Leyte Representative Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation by the Office of the Ombudsman after the Independent Coordinating Investigation (ICI) concluded its fact-finding process concerning alleged irregularities involving the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In a statement released by his office, Romualdez emphasized that he had fully cooperated with the ICI panel from the beginning — voluntarily appearing, remaining in the country throughout the proceedings, and submitting all required documents and clarifications.

“I willingly submitted myself to the ICI’s fact-finding process, appeared voluntarily, and remained in the country,” Romualdez said, stressing that no sworn or credible evidence had ever linked him to any irregular activity. “My conscience remains clear.”

With the inquiry now formally endorsed to the Ombudsman for evaluation, the lawmaker said he welcomed the next step, expressing trust in the institution’s independence and rigor.

“It’s now with the Ombudsman. I trust in the Ombudsman’s impartial and thorough review and evaluation,” he noted. “I do so with confidence that a fair and complete assessment of the record will reflect the truth.”

The Ombudsman has yet to issue a timetable for its review, but the case is expected to undergo standard procedures, including document validation and potential clarificatory hearings.
