TACLOBAN CITY — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region VIII has officially reappointed Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez as Chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) – Eastern Visayas for the years 2025 to 2028, reaffirming his influential role in steering the region’s peace and security agenda.
In its announcement, DILG Region VIII lauded Mayor Romualdez for his “strong leadership and unwavering dedication to fostering peace, security, and coordinated governance across Eastern Visayas.”
The council, composed of local chief executives, law enforcement agencies, and regional stakeholders, plays a crucial role in creating unified strategies to address public safety concerns and maintain regional stability.
Mayor Romualdez’s reappointment is widely seen as a vote of confidence in his ability to build consensus, strengthen partnerships, and push forward programs that promote safe and resilient communities. Under his stewardship, the RPOC has been credited for enhancing coordination between local governments and national agencies, particularly in crisis response, anti-criminality efforts, and community-based peace initiatives.
