BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar — Acting Mayor Emmanuel Tiu Sonco has announced the suspension of classes at all levels, both public and private, in Borongan City for tomorrow, January 5, 2026. The suspension is a precautionary measure due to the persistent and heavy rainfall brought about by the shear line affecting Borongan City and the rest of Eastern Samar.
The decision to suspend classes was made to ensure the safety of students and faculty, as the heavy rains increase the risk of flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.
The Acting Mayor is advising all residents to take necessary precautions, stay indoors if possible, and avoid unnecessary travel. Residents are also urged to stay informed about the latest weather updates by monitoring official bulletins from DOST-PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) and the Borongan City Government.
The City Government is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure a swift and effective response to any emergencies that may arise. Residents are encouraged to report any incidents or concerns to the appropriate authorities.
