Borongan City, Eastern Samar (Feb. 5, 2026) – In anticipation of the potential impact of Tropical Storm “Basyang,” classes at all levels, in both public and private schools, have been suspended in several municipalities of Eastern Samar, effective 1:00 PM today, February 5, 2026.
Governor Ralph Vincent ‘RV’ Evardone issued an Executive Order mandating the class suspensions in the towns of Guiuan, Salcedo, Mercedes, Giporlos, Balangiga, Lawaan, Quinapondan, General MacArthur, Hernani, Llorente, and Balangkayan.
As a precautionary measure, the Executive Order also advises teachers and non-teaching school personnel to remain at home, avoiding unnecessary travel during the storm’s passage.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned of moderate to heavy rainfall across the province due to the combined influence of Tropical Storm “Basyang” and a shear line. These conditions could lead to flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.
The provincial government is urging residents to stay informed, closely monitor official weather updates, and prioritize their safety at all times.
