Homonhon Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar (January 23, 2026) – A fire is currently burning on a mountain in Brgy. Pagbabangnan, Homonhon Island, causing concern among residents.
While the exact time of origin is uncertain, the blaze became clearly visible to residents this evening as flames spread across the mountainside.
Emergency responders have mobilized water trucks, but the rugged terrain and lack of road access are hindering efforts to reach the fire.
The dry conditions and windy weather are contributing to the rapid spread of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Local residents are expressing concerns about the fire potentially reaching homes, particularly given the prolonged dry spell on Homonhon Island. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
