BAYBAY CITY, Leyte — Ormoc City’s student-athletes once again demonstrated their excellence in regional sports by clinching the overall championship at the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet 2026 in Baybay City.
The Ormoc delegation emerged victorious with a remarkable total of 396 medals, including 173 gold, 141 silver, and 82 bronze, allowing the city to retain its title for the sixth year in a row.
Thirteen delegations from Eastern Visayas, such as Baybay City, Biliran, Borongan, Calbayog, Catbalogan, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Maasin, Northern Samar, Samar, Southern Leyte, Tacloban City, and Ormoc City, participated in this year’s regional sports meet, with over 7,000 athletes competing.
According to the official medal count, the Leyte Division secured the first runner-up position with 213 medals, followed by the Tacloban Division as the second runner-up with
140 medals. Host Baybay Division claimed the third runner-up spot with 113 medals, while Maasin Division took the fourth runner-up position with 70 medals.
Ormoc’s consistent success in the EVRAA Meet highlights the hard work, discipline, and rigorous training of its student-athletes, coaches, and sports officials, who have consistently delivered outstanding performances in the regional competition.
In recognition of their achievement, Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez and other city officials organized a heroes’ welcome on March 7 to celebrate the athletes for bringing honor to Ormoc City.
