The suspect, known as alias “Moc-Moc,” aged 39, a farmer and resident of Brgy. Anglit, had an active Warrant of Arrest for rape under Republic Act 7610, issued on February 28, 2014, by Hon. Tarcelo A. Sabarre Jr., Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 30, 8th Judicial Region, Basey, Samar, with no bail recommended.
The operation was led by female police officers from the Basey Municipal Police Station (MPS) under PCPT Aileen G. Velarde, OIC, with support from the PIU-Samar PPO, headed by PMAJ Juan Carlos S. Recluta, OIC, and coordinated with PCOL Arwin M. Tadeo, Provincial Director, Samar PPO.
Authorities stated that the arrest was part of SACLEO’s initiative to apprehend wanted individuals involved in crimes against women and children, such as rape and violations of RA 9262 (Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004).
“This operation underscores the crucial role of our female officers in ensuring community safe, particularly for women and children,” PMAJ Juan Carlos S. Recluta remarked.
The suspect was duly informed of his rights under the Miranda Doctrine and RA 9745 (Anti-Torture Act of 2009) and is currently held at the Basey Police Station pending legal proceedings.
Law enforcement officials stressed that such operations led by women highlight the increasing participation of female officers in frontline policing and their effectiveness in addressing gender-based offenses.
