PSA Eastern Visayas Joins 1st Quarter Nationwide Earthquake Drill

TACLOBAN CITY — Employees of the Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office VIII (PSA RSSO 08) joined the nation in enhancing their disaster preparedness by actively participating in the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on Thursday afternoon, March 12, 2026.

Held at 3:30 PM, the agency’s participation was in compliance with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) Memorandum No. 15, series of 2026, which mandates government offices to take part in initiatives aimed at building a culture of safety and resilience.

Personnel from the RSSO 08, including Government Internship Program (GIP) clerks and On-the-Job Trainees (OJTs), simulated the standard emergency procedure. Participants practiced the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” technique before conducting an orderly evacuation to designated assembly areas.

According to a statement released by the office of Regional Director, represented by Officer-In-Charge Zonia C. Salazar, the drill serves as a critical exercise to ensure that all employees are familiar with proper safety protocols.

“This activity helps ensure that individuals are familiar with proper safety procedures and are ready to respond effectively in the event of a real earthquake,” PSA statement said. “Through collective participation, the agency supported the government’s continuous efforts to enhance disaster resilience and safeguard lives and properties.”

The NSED is conducted quarterly by the NDRRMC to standardize and improve the earthquake preparedness of the public and private sectors across the country. — The Vanguard
