TACLOBAN CITY — Inspired by Manny Pacquiao’s legacy and supported by his family, Ponciano “Batang Leyte” Rimandiman Jr. has built a career marked by discipline, resilience, and continuous growth. Starting from humble beginnings in Leyte, he has progressed to compete on national and international platforms.
Rimandiman’s boxing journey began at the age of eight, influenced by Pacquiao and his older brother, who was his initial coach. Learning the basics and instilling a strong work ethic under his brother’s guidance, he entered the amateur scene in 2007, representing Leyte in local matches. These early experiences laid the groundwork for his technical development and maturity in the ring.
Recognizing his potential, his brother took him to Cebu, a move that proved pivotal in advancing his career. Training at the Wakee Salud Boxing Gym in Cebu, Rimandiman honed his skills and prepared for the professional arena. Making his professional debut in the city, he later joined Omega Boxing Gym, where he clinched a VISPROBA Championship title.
Competing in various weight classes, including 112, 115, and 118 pounds before moving up to 127 pounds, Rimandiman faced tough opponents like Alex Santisima, learning valuable lessons despite some defeats. Embracing new challenges, he ventured into Muay Thai, relocating to Manila to pursue opportunities in striking competitions. Currently training at YodRak L.P Muaythai Gym, he continues to compete and enhance his skills in the discipline.
His journey has extended beyond the Philippines, with competitive stints in Thailand, a renowned hub for Muay Thai. These international experiences have broadened his skill set and strategic acumen.
From a young dreamer in Leyte to a seasoned fighter crossing disciplines and borders, Ponciano Rimandiman Jr.’s narrative embodies the enduring spirit of Waray-Waray fighters, marked by humility, purpose, and perseverance.
As he progresses on his path, “Batang Leyte” stands as a testament to the power of dedication and bravery in achieving success, one battle at a time.
