Easter Rescue: Near-Drowning Victim Saved in Dolores

• On Easter Sunday, Coast Guard and disaster responders rescued Rodulfo Oraya from near-drowning at Japitan beach after he hit his head on a rock attempting a backflip.

DOLORES, Eastern Samar — Personnel from the Philippine Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Dolores and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Dolores promptly responded to a near-drowning incident at the public beach of Barangay Japitan during Easter Sunday celebrations on April 5 at 4:25 in the afternoon.

In an interview with PO3 Kenneth M Bauya, the Sub-Station Commander of CGSS Dolores, he identified the victim as Rodulfo Oraya, a resident of Barangay Japitan, who was found slightly conscious with head injuries after reportedly hitting a rock while attempting a backflip.

He mentioned that the victim was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Upon arrival at the scene, Coast Guard responders provided immediate assistance and coordinated with MDRRMO Dolores for medical evacuation. Oraya’s companions had already performed CPR before the arrival of emergency teams, which helped the victim regain consciousness.

The victim was safely transported to Casano Hospital for further medical care.

After the incident response, CGSS Dolores personnel resumed their baywatch duties, maintaining heightened vigilance to ensure the safety of all beachgoers enjoying the holiday at the coastal barangay.
