TACLOBAN CITY — The Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas (PRO8) has assured the public that the investigation into the June 22 shooting at San Jose National High School is being handled with fairness, caution, and strict adherence to due process.

The incident, which left three students dead and several others injured, has prompted ongoing criminal proceedings and a full-scale investigation by authorities.

In a statement, PRO8 said charges have already been filed against a 15-year-old child in conflict with the law (CICL) through inquest proceedings before the Office of the City Prosecutor in Tacloban City. The complaints include three counts of murder, three counts of frustrated murder, and multiple counts of serious physical injury.

Police said two minors involved in the case are currently under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth in Tanauan, Leyte, where they are undergoing the appropriate legal and rehabilitative processes for CICLs.

Despite the filing of charges, PRO8 emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing. Investigators are continuing to gather and verify evidence, conduct interviews with witnesses, and reconstruct the sequence of events to establish a clear picture of what happened during the incident.

PRO-8 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy said the investigation is being conducted with diligence and impartiality.

“We remain committed to establishing the truth and ensuring accountability under the law,” Capoy said, adding that all findings will be based on verified evidence and proper legal procedures.

He also reminded the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information online, especially while the investigation is still in progress. Capoy urged residents to rely only on official updates from authorities and to report any relevant or suspicious information to law enforcement agencies.

Police officials said further developments will be released once additional verified information becomes available.

As the investigation continues, authorities reiterated their commitment to transparency and due process, stressing that all actions being taken are guided by the law and respect for the rights of all individuals involved in the case.
