TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte — Classes at Eastern Samar National Comprehensive High School (ESNCHS) in Borongan City were suspended Friday, July 3, after authorities received a report of a bomb and gun threat.
School officials immediately coordinated with the Schools Division Office of Borongan City and the Philippine National Police, prompting a security sweep of the campus.
After inspecting the school grounds, the Borongan City Police Station declared the campus clear of any bomb or gun threat.
In a statement, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region VIII said it is continuing to coordinate with the police as the investigation moves forward to identify the person or persons behind the threat and determine possible criminal charges.
DepEd said the incident highlights the need to remain alert while ensuring that schools continue to be safe spaces for students and teachers.
The agency also appealed to the public to avoid sharing unverified information on social media, saying false or unconfirmed posts can cause unnecessary panic. Instead, it encouraged parents, students, and the public to rely on updates from the school, DepEd, and the police.
