Tacloban City – As demonstrated during the recent deployment of K9 Unit Bulacan in Eastern Visayas, Narcotic Detection Dogs continue to play a significant role in strengthening the Government’s Campaign Against Illegal Drugs.

On December 12, 2025, K9 Unit Bulacan conducted an Exit Call with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 8 (PDEA-8), led by Regional Director Lirio T. Ilao/Oximar. The purpose of the Exit Call was to showcase the increasing success of the K9 teams and how narcotic detection dogs have become valuable allies of law enforcement in detecting and stopping the flow of illegal drugs in the Region.

During the meeting, the K9 teams presented the positive outcomes of their operations and emphasized that the use of detection dogs leads to significant improvements in the efficiency of searches, inspections and interdiction of narcotics. They also highlighted the dog’s ability to locate illicit narcotics that might otherwise go undetected, ultimately keeping illegal drugs out of the community and preventing their use.

The discussion also emphasized the importance of providing proper care and training to K9 dogs to ensure they are fully functional and effective. By providing adequate kennel space, continuous training opportunities, and close coordination with handlers, a K9 unit can achieve maximum efficiency, and the dogs can remain healthy, alert and capable of performing their duties effectively.

In conclusion, Regional Director Oximar praised the dedicaton of the K9 Unit.
