HILONGOS, Leyte — A motorcycle rider was seriously injured after being trapped between two buses in a road accident in Barangay San Roque, Hilongos, Leyte, around 2:00 p.m. on January 5, police reported.
The injured motorist was identified as alias “John”, a resident of the barangay. The driver of the minibus was identified as alias “Mark”, a resident of Hindang, Leyte, while the Metrostar bus driver was identified as alias “Eric”, a resident of Hilongos.
According to PMaj. Ambrocio V. Demain, Chief of Police of the Hilongos Municipal Police Station (MPS), the motorcycle rider was on his way home from work when the accident occurred. At the time, the minibus was traveling from Inopacan to Matalom, while the Metrostar bus was en route from Ormoc City to Sogod, Southern Leyte.
Demain explained that all three vehicles were traveling in the same direction and were moving one after another when the minibus suddenly stopped along the road to unload a passenger. The motorcycle and the Metrostar bus, which were following closely behind, were unable to react in time.
The Metrostar bus reportedly failed to brake and hit the motorcycle, which was then pushed forward and collided with the minibus, effectively “sandwiching” the motorcycle between the two buses.
The motorcycle rider sustained serious physical injuries, including injuries to his hip and right arm. He was immediately taken to the hospital and is set to undergo surgery.
The two bus drivers are currently in police custody. Demain stated that if the incident is not settled amicably, the drivers may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries and damage to property.
Police added that no other motorists were involved in the crash and that all passengers aboard both buses were safe.
