TACLOBAN CITY — Law enforcement authorities stepped up their anti-drug efforts following the confiscation of a significant amount of suspected shabu valued at over P91,000 in a buy-bust operation that resulted in the apprehension of a 21-year-old pedicab driver in Barangay 84, Cogon, San Jose, Tacloban City, on May 13.

The Tacloban City Police Office Police Station 1 conducted the operation at approximately 12:52 a.m., seizing four sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 13.5 grams, a substantial haul for a single street-level operation.

The suspect, known as “Gorge,” 21 years old and a resident of Barangay 84, Cogon, San Jose, Tacloban City, was identified as the alleged distributor in the area based on intelligence reports. He was apprehended after allegedly selling suspected shabu to an undercover officer during a planned buy-bust operation.

In addition to the sachets, authorities recovered a P500-marked bill used in the transaction. The confiscated drugs will undergo laboratory testing to determine their composition and purity.

The suspect is currently in custody at Police Station 1 and is facing charges for violating Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PMAJ Kent Rivas, the Commander of Police Station 1, emphasized that the operation reflects ongoing efforts to target both users and individuals involved in drug distribution networks within communities.

The seizure of the drugs highlights the persistent issue of street-level drug supply chains in Tacloban, prompting increased monitoring and enforcement actions in identified high-risk areas.
