Tacloban City – A 33-year-old fish vendor was arrested during a buy-bust operation in Tacloban City early Thursday morning, with police seizing suspected shabu worth an estimated P68,000.
Operatives from the Tacloban City Police Office Station 3 conducted the operation at around 12:35 a.m. on June 5 in Barangay 106, GMA Pabahay.
The suspect, identified only by the alias Tisoy, is a resident of the same barangay.
According to police, the operation was carried out after receiving information about the suspect’s alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade in the area.
Recovered from the suspect were eight heat-sealed plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu. The confiscated drugs weighed about 10 grams and had an estimated street value of P68,000.
Police also recovered a marked P500 bill used in the operation, along with two fake P1,000 bills used as boodle money.
The arrest took place in a residential community where many families live, raising concerns about the continued presence of illegal drugs in neighborhoods.
Authorities said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of illegal drugs and disrupt local drug activities within the city.
The suspect is now being held at the Tacloban City Police Station 3 detention facility while charges are being prepared against him.
He is expected to face charges for violations of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which cover the sale and possession of illegal drugs.
Police urged residents to continue reporting suspected drug-related activities in their communities, saying public cooperation remains important in anti-drug operations.
The latest arrest is one of several anti-drug operations conducted in Tacloban City in recent weeks as authorities continue efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in local communities.
