Can-avid, Eastern Samar – The spirit of Christmas shone brightly in Can-avid, Eastern Samar, on December 8, 2025, as thousands of Can-avidnons and Estehanons gathered to witness the ceremonial lighting of the 8th LAMRAG Giant Lantern Festival. The event, orchestrated by the local government unit under the leadership of Mayor Alicia Teves, transformed the town into a dazzling spectacle of light and color.

The atmosphere was electric, filled with anticipation as the giant lanterns, each a unique masterpiece of creativity and craftsmanship, stood poised to illuminate the night. The event was graced by the presence of Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member Atty. PJ Evardone and Congressional District Office Provincial Officer Ms. Viviene Alvarez, representing Congressman Sheen Gonzales of the Lone District of Eastern Samar, as well as House Minority Leader Cong. Nonoy Libanan of the 4Ps Partylist. Their attendance underscored the importance of the festival in uniting the community and celebrating the holiday season.

Local artists from Eastern Samar provided the soundtrack to the evening, filling the air with music that resonated with the spirit of joy and love. The festive atmosphere was palpable as families and friends shared in the wonder of the event.

As the switch was flipped and the lanterns burst into life, a collective gasp of awe swept through the crowd. “This symbolizes the hope and success of all Can-avidnons,” Mayor Teves declared, her voice filled with pride. “Let us continue to hope for a peaceful and joyous celebration of Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”

The 8th LAMRAG Giant Lantern Festival was made possible through the generous sponsorship of several key figures. Congressman Nonoy Libanan of the 4Ps Partylist contributed the grand prize of P200,000.00, while Congressman Sheen Gonzales sponsored the first-place prize of P150,000.00. Governor RV Evardone provided the second-place prize of P100,000.00, and 10 consolation prizes totaling P100,000.00, by Vice Governor Maria Caridad Sison-Goteesan, further demonstrating the commitment of local leaders to supporting arts and culture in Eastern Samar.
