CAN-AVID, Eastern Samar — The Department of Agriculture (DA) Eastern Samar and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) provided farm and fishery assistance to farmers and fishermen in Can-Avid to enhance the local food supply system and job opportunities in the area.
Farm equipment, fishing gear, livestock, seedlings, fertilizers, and other agricultural supplies were distributed at no cost to recipients from various barangays.
A four-wheel drive tractor was given to corn growers in Barangay Canilay. Three payao (fish aggregating devices) were provided to fishermen from Barangays Carolina, Cansangaya, and Rawis to support their fishing operations. In Barangay Baruk, 480 ready-to-lay hens were distributed to aid in egg production.
Grass cutters were provided to farmers in Barangays Balagon and Solong to reduce manual labor. Farmers from Barangay Solong also received ₱80,000 worth of various vegetable seeds, farm implements, and insecticides for vegetable production.
To promote long-term agricultural development, 2,000 cacao seedlings were given to farmers in Barangay Cansangaya and 2,000 jackfruit seedlings to farmers in Barangay Canilay. Additionally, a total of 1,000 bags of fertilizer were distributed to beneficiaries across the municipality.
The distribution event was organized by Mayor Alicia Leguin Teves, who also offered technical assistance through her office.
