CAN-AVID, Eastern Samar – The municipality of Can-avid was illuminated by a dazzling display of creativity and community spirit as the 8th Lamrag Giant Lantern Festival concluded with an awarding ceremony on December 27, 2025. The festival, a beloved tradition in Can-avid, showcased the artistic talent and collaborative efforts of barangay residents, culminating in a spectacular competition of giant lanterns.
After a night of dazzling displays, Barangay 7 of Poblacion emerged as the champion, captivating the judges and audience with their innovative design and vibrant illumination. Barangay 7 will receive a trophy and a cash prize of ₱200,000.00, generously sponsored by Cong. Nonoy Libanan of 4Ps partylist.
Barangay Rawis secured second place, impressing with its intricate craftsmanship and harmonious color palette. They will receive a trophy and a cash prize of ₱150,000.00, sponsored by the lone district representative of Eastern Samar Cong. Sheen Gonzales.
Rounding out the top three was Barangay 4 of Poblacion, whose lantern displayed exceptional artistry and technical skill. They will receive a trophy and a cash prize of ₱100,000.00, sponsored by Governor RV Evardone.
In recognition of the hard work and dedication of all participating barangays, Vice Governor Maricar Sison Goteesan sponsored a consolation prize of ₱10,000.00 each for ten of the thirteen non-winning barangays.
Mayor Alicia Teves delivered a heartfelt message, expressing her appreciation for the community’s unity and commitment to the festival:
“It’s truly beautiful to see us all united, from the beginning of creating these giant lanterns to this very moment. You have shown me the true spirit of unity. Like these giant lanterns, may we be a reason to bring light to others. Let us continue to be united for future LGU programs. Thank you all so much, and Happy Holidays!”
The 8th Lamrag Giant Lantern Festival was a resounding success, showcasing the vibrant culture, artistic talent, and strong community spirit of Can-avid. The festival not only provided a dazzling spectacle for residents and visitors alike but also served as a reminder of the importance of unity, creativity, and the spirit of giving during the holiday season.
