DARAM, Samar — It was the fifth day since the annual Daramsiyao Festival was officially launched with much fanfare when Team Villareal emerged as the 2026 champions of the Daram Invitational Volleyball Tournament held on January 10. The victory set a perfect tone for the town’s traditional fiesta on January 15.
In cooperation with the Daram Island Volleyball Association (DIVA), the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Daram organized the tournament, which was a vibrant, one, day event at the Daram Municipal Covered Court. Throughout the day, volleyball teams from different towns participated enthusiastically, exhibiting their sports skills, playing as a team, and showing their community spirit.




Winning first place and a cash prize of Php 8,000, Villareal was followed by Motiong, which came in second place and received Php 5,000, while the host team Daram (DIVA) took third place with Php 3,000. Crowds witnessed the tournament, which was seen as a great triumph in fostering friendship among local athletes and visitors.
Moreover, the full-day fiesta in the streets of Daram was also uplifted by the Daramsiyao Festival, the program of which is the pride and joy of the island municipality’s residents, as it is a tribute to the heritage, culture, and community of the place.
Daram is a municipality that consists mainly of Daram Island, Parasan Island, and a few smaller islets located in Samar province, Eastern Visayas. Based on the 2020 Census, the municipality has a total population of 41, 608 residents spread over 58 barangays.
Life on Daram Island revolves around the sea and natural environment since it is a coastal community. Fishing and farming are the major sources of livelihood for the people.
The Daramsiyao Festival and the volleyball tournament illustrate the people’s commitment to improving community life, nurturing the youth, and preserving their heritage, thereby reaffirming Daram as a lively island municipality.
