Tacloban City — Northern Samar experienced heavy rainfall due to adverse weather conditions, leading to flooding in some areas. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a Red Rainfall Warning for Samar on Monday, prompting authorities to issue warnings and restrict road access.

PAGASA’s Amendment of Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 5 indicated the possibility of severe flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in hilly and mountainous locations. Residents were advised to take precautions and stay alert for updates.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region VIII – Northern Samar First District Engineering Office reported flooding along parts of the Catarman–Calbayog Road, a secondary national road.

A section of the road in Lope de Vega was flooded with water up to 0.6 meters deep, with the worst area in Barangay Bayho.

The road is impassable to light vehicles, and caution is advised for heavy vehicle operators.

DPWH personnel are monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed. Motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and monitor official weather advisories and road conditions closely.  — Nicole Cabacang, BS DevCom Intern; Rodalyn Silva, BS DevCom Intern – The Vanguard
