Some fighters are born into the sport, while others fight their way towards it through hardship, sacrifice, and unwavering belief. Lito Badenas’ story falls into the latter category, showcasing that greatness is not determined by when you begin but how vigorously you pursue your dreams.
Born in Barangay Bangon, Pinabacdao, Western Samar, Lito’s life was molded by resilience long before he entered the boxing ring. In May 2017, he journeyed to Manila with his uncle in search of opportunities.
Working as a steelman at a construction site in Mandaluyong, he endured strenuous labor while silently harboring grand aspirations. It was at this site that boxing found him.
Under the guidance of his co-worker Edwin Pabadora, he started watching boxing videos and training during breaks, transforming the construction site into an impromptu gym.
Despite doubts surrounding his decision to start boxing at the age of 22 in 2022, considered late for a professional career, the skepticism only fueled his determination. Through unwavering commitment and discipline, he entered the amateur ranks under Roll PH before continuing his journey at Arcillas Boxing Gym in Delpan, Manila, where his skills were honed, and his potential fully realized.
In 2023, he made his professional debut, commencing a swift and impressive ascent in the sport. Renowned for his power and resolve, he amassed a record of 8 wins, 2 losses, and 1 draw, with 7 victories achieved by knockout — a testament to his explosive style in the ring.
A defining moment came when he clinched the PBF Championship by defeating Pablito Cañada, solidifying his place among serious contenders.
However, his greatest challenge awaited him against Indonesia’s undefeated top boxer, Ongen Saknosiwi.
Against all odds, armed with every lesson learned from adversity and sacrifice, Lito entered the ring and emerged victorious, seizing the WBA Asia Super Featherweight Championship — completing a remarkable journey from construction worker to champion.
His narrative transcends mere boxing; it serves as a reminder that even a delayed start can lead to extraordinary destinations when driven by courage, faith, and relentless determination.
