TANAUAN, Leyte — The Sangguniang Bayan of Tanauan emphasized its commitment to governance reforms during its 3rd Regular Session on Monday, February 16. The session saw the adoption of various policy reviews and proposed ordinances aimed at enhancing accountability, regulation, and long-term development in the municipality.

Key discussions during the session focused on inquiries in aid of legislation to strengthen oversight and ensure efficient public service delivery.

The Committee on Finance and Social Services initiated an inquiry into the distribution of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), to ensure compliance with local ordinances and transparency in aid distribution. Lawmakers also scrutinized the operations of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRM) Office to improve disaster preparedness and overall performance.

Additionally, the council reviewed the temporary relocation arrangements for vendors at the Tanauan Public Market during its renovation to safeguard livelihoods and ensure assistance for affected vendors.

In addition to oversight efforts, the council introduced proposed ordinances to support sustainable growth and regulatory reform.

A proposed Tourism Code of Tanauan, Leyte aimed to promote sustainable tourism development while preserving the town’s heritage.

The council also considered an ordinance to institutionalize the Annual Barangay Christmas Festival and a Comprehensive Traffic Code to address transport and traffic issues. Environmental protection was also a priority, with a proposed ordinance regulating the use of plastic bags in commercial establishments and imposing penalties for violations. The session highlighted the municipal government’s commitment to enhancing institutional accountability, regulatory frameworks, and sustainable development in Tanauan, Leyte.
