TACLOBAN CITY — The 8th Civil-Military Operations (Dangpanan) Battalion of the Philippine Army participated in a community mural project called “Lupa ng Araw: Bayang Di Pasisiil” at the free wall of Brgy. 43-B Quarry on March 28 and 29.

Located in the northern part of Tacloban City, Brgy. 43-B Quarry is known for its peaceful community and rugged landscapes shaped by quarrying activities. The free wall, a weathered concrete stretch from the local quarry site, was transformed into a symbol of unity and hope through this initiative.

Task Group Tacloban, in collaboration with the youth organization Amare et Caritas and various stakeholders, organized the two-day project to showcase community pride and resilience. Volunteers and artists prepared the site on the first day, while the second day involved a painting session where residents, volunteers, and soldiers worked together to bring the mural to life.

The mural depicts a rising sun symbolizing hope and courage, Philippine flags representing national pride, and a townscape with nipa huts, trees, and rivers reflecting the beauty of Brgy. 43-B.

Abstract patterns of interlocking hands and radiant beams symbolize unity and cooperation within the community. A native woman in traditional attire embodies the strength and nurturing spirit of Filipino women, surrounded by local flora and traditional patterns honoring Tacloban’s culture.

The mural is dynamic, with each brushstroke conveying movement and warmth, inviting viewers to reflect on the community’s heritage and hope.

This project is the first of a series of community murals aimed at fostering pride, creativity, and collaboration among local stakeholders.

Participants from various organizations, including JCI Candahug Liberation, TCPO-PNP, Philippine Navy, PAF, PCG, and TOMECO, came together to transform the once-empty wall into a vibrant symbol of unity and resilience. This initiative showcases the power of communities working together to create spaces that inspire hope and celebrate their identity.
