TACLOBAN CITY — Approximately 400 small-scale fishers in Salcedo, Eastern Samar, were given fuel assistance totaling around P1.2 million through the government’s Fuel Discount for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program Caravan on Monday, April 20, 2026.
Each recipient received a P3,000 fuel discount card for gasoline to support their daily fishing activities.
The distribution took place at the Salcedo Municipal Covered Court as part of a national effort to alleviate the impact of increasing fuel prices on the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
The BFAR Eastern Visayas stated that the FDFFP aims to offer immediate relief to farmers and fisherfolk affected by fuel price hikes, enabling them to sustain their livelihoods amidst economic challenges.
Following the Salcedo distribution, fisherfolk from Guiuan, Mercedes, and Quinapondan will undergo the Know Your Client process and obtain their discount cards. The third tranche of the program is expected to assist a total of 3,344 beneficiaries, the highest number in the region so far.
