BILIRAN, Biliran — A 40-year-old woman was killed by her younger brother in Sitio Ansay, Barangay Union, Caibiran, Biliran at around 7:30 a.m. on April 20, 2026.
The victim, known as alias “Rose,” was a resident of the area, while the suspect, identified as alias “Jay,” 25, also lived in the same barangay.
According to Police Captain Teofilo H. Gervacio III, Acting Chief of Police of Caibiran Municipal Police Station, the incident started with a disagreement over a transaction at a local store owned by the suspect.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim’s child had bought items from the store and returned later to question the alleged incomplete change. This led to the victim going to the store to address the issue, which resulted in a heated argument between the siblings.
PCapt. Gervacio mentioned that the suspect lost control during the argument and used a bladed weapon to attack his older sister, causing injuries to her head and arm. Despite being taken to a hospital, the victim succumbed to severe head injuries.
Authorities are considering “loss of temper” as a potential motive for the incident.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene but was apprehended in a neighboring barangay. He is currently in police custody, along with the weapon believed to have been used in the crime.
The suspect is now facing a murder charge and has reportedly shown remorse for his actions.
