BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar – Provincial, city, and municipal leaders joined family and friends to honor the life and enduring legacy of Clotilde Japzon-Salazar – Eastern Samar’s first woman governor and former Sangguniang Panlalawigan member – during a funeral mass and tribute ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol lobby.
Known affectionately as “Nanay Tindeng” or “Mana Tindeng” to many, Salazar passed away on May 9, 2026, at the age of 94, leaving behind a decades-long legacy of public service and contributions to the province’s growth.
After the mass, eulogies were delivered by current and former officials who worked with Salazar during her time in office. Speakers recounted how her initiatives and projects transformed communities across Eastern Samar, with their positive impact still visible and felt by residents today.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, led by Vice Governor Maricar Sison-Goteesan, presented a resolution of condolences recognizing Salazar’s exceptional leadership and lasting contributions to the province.
Governor RV Evardone, who delivered a eulogy during the tribute, noted that while he did not serve alongside her directly, he had come to know her through family connections and colleagues. He extended heartfelt condolences to Salazar’s bereaved loved ones.
Family members expressed deep gratitude for the widespread support and for seeing countless Estehanons come together to honor her memory as a trailblazer who broke barriers as the province’s first female governor.
The ceremony also included musical performances by Huni Sinirangan, with songs dedicated to celebrating Salazar’s life and service to Eastern Samar.
