P5.78M Worth of Suspected Shabu Seized in Tacloban Buy-Bust Operation

TACLOBAN CITY —  A 46-year-old man was arrested after police seized suspected shabu worth an estimated P5.78 million during a buy-bust operation in Barangay 96, Calanipawan, Tacloban City, on Thursday morning, June 25.

The operation was carried out by the Tacloban City Police Office City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) at around 10:43 a.m.

Police identified the suspect as alias `Ben’, a married janitor and resident of Barangay 96, Calanipawan.

Investigators said an undercover officer bought one sachet of suspected shabu from the suspect for P10,500, leading to his arrest.

After taking the suspect into custody, officers recovered 13 sachets of suspected shabu weighing about 850 grams with an estimated street value of P 5.78 million.

Also recovered during the operation were a brown sling bag believed to have been used to store the illegal drugs, a digital weighing scale, P 600 in cash, one P 500 bill bearing serial number CF7837076, and ten P 1,000 bills used as boodle and marked money for the operation.

The suspect is facing charges for alleged violations of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, which cover the illegal sale and possession of dangerous drugs.

He is currently being held at the Tacloban City Police Station lock-up facility while the charges are being prepared.

Police continue to urge the public to report suspected illegal drug activities as part of the city’s campaign against illegal drugs.
