Tacloban City — Around 300 senior citizens in Tacloban received financial assistance from the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) on August 14 at the CEO Gym.

OSCA Administrative Officer Mcferd Enicello said the payout is for senior citizens who have reached certain milestone ages under the government program.

Those who are 80, 85, 90 and 95 years old are included, as well as those who have reached 100. Centenarians are entitled to P100,000.

Enicello said seniors who are already 86 or 96 years old, for example, will have to wait for the next scheduled payout.

He asked relatives of the beneficiaries to visit the OSCA office for verification and to accompany their senior family members during the payout.

Enicello also reminded senior citizens who do not yet have an OSCA ID to visit their office and apply. Applicants should bring complete documents to avoid delays.

Aside from the cash assistance, OSCA also has other activities and services for senior citizens.

Enicello said seniors can watch movies for free at Movie World every Monday. They cannot choose the movie, however, as the free screening depends on the film scheduled for that day. Seniors can also get discounts on other movie screenings.

OSCA has also coordinated with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for livelihood training for seniors who want to learn new skills.

A medical mission is planned for October, with free eyeglasses available to seniors who need them. The eyeglasses will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Enicello encouraged senior citizens to visit the OSCA office if they need assistance or want to find out more about the programs available to them.
