Catarman, Northern Samar — Recognizing the town’s vulnerability to flooding and other natural hazards, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) conducted a two-day refresher course on Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid, and Ambulance Operations on October 15–16, 2025, to strengthen the province’s emergency response capability.

PDRRMO Department Head Rei Josiah Echano highlighted the importance of preparedness and discipline in disaster response, saying, “Discipline safeguards our communities and families who may be at risk from hazards.”

The training gathered Operations and Warning personnel for hands-on sessions on bandaging, patient transfer, CPR for all age groups, and managing airway obstructions. Simulation drills and ambulance operation exercises were also conducted to assess coordination and response efficiency.

Operations and Warning Chief Freddie Arandia said the refresher aims not only to comply with training standards but to evaluate operational gaps, strengthen teamwork, and ensure all units remain ready and functional.

Echano added that the activity underscores PDRRMO’s commitment to a systematic and coordinated disaster response, urging continuous collaboration with the DILG, PNP, MDRRMOs, and barangays in monitoring evacuation centers and maintaining readiness across Northern Samar.

Findings from the training will be used to enhance future disaster response programs and capability-building initiatives for the Operations and Warning Division.
