TACLOBAN CITY — December 9, 2025 — The United States and the Philippines are collaborating to ensure that Tacloban residents have access to clean and safe drinking water through a new initiative led by the Pacific Partnership 2026 mission.
From November 29 to December 4, 2025, the mission, in partnership with the local Joint Task Force Tacloban, visited Barangay Santa Elena and Barangay Paglaum to assess water systems and plan infrastructure upgrades. This project is part of a larger effort aimed at improving health, sanitation, and community resilience in the area.
The initiative will focus on repairing and upgrading local water systems to ensure residents have reliable access to safe drinking water. Additionally, the program will provide training for local health and engineering staff, empowering them to maintain these improvements and promote hygiene practices within their communities.
1LT Jerrycho C. David, Civil Military Operations Officer of Joint Taskforce Group Tacloban, stated, “Our goal goes beyond temporary assistance. By working with local professionals, we are establishing lasting access to clean water and building stronger community resilience.”
Local residents and officials have welcomed the initiative, acknowledging its potential to improve public health, prevent waterborne diseases, and simplify daily life for families who currently struggle to access safe water.
The main mission is set to officially take place from May 15 to June 15, 2026, and it aims to bring lasting benefits to Tacloban while strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the United States and the Philippines.
By focusing on water, health, and community education, the Pacific Partnership 2026 mission is laying the foundation for a safer, healthier, and more resilient future for Tacloban.
