TACLOBAN CITY — Residents of Tacloban will soon be able to access basic health and wellness services while shopping, as the Department of Health–Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-EVCHD) prepares to open the region’s first-ever DOH Wellness Clinic inside a shopping mall.
On December 17, 2025, DOH-EVCHD signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Tacloban City government and Robinsons North Mall Abucay, formalizing the partnership for the new clinic. The facility is set to open in early 2026.
The wellness clinic will be located inside Robinsons North Mall Abucay, making health services more convenient and accessible to the public. Instead of going to hospitals or health centers for basic checkups and wellness services, residents can visit the clinic while doing their regular errands at the mall.
The MOA signing was led by DOH-EVCHD Regional Director Dr. Exuperia B. Sabalberino, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, and Robinsons Mall Director Allan Anthony Armamento. Officials said the project supports the government’s Universal Health Care program by bringing health services closer to the people.
Also present during the signing was Dr. Marvin Jed Soledad, head of the DOH Health Promotion Unit, along with representatives from the local government and the private sector.
According to DOH officials, the clinic is designed to serve as a wellness hub focused on health promotion and disease prevention. It aims to encourage residents to take care of their health through easy access to services in a familiar and frequently visited place.
The Tacloban mall-based clinic is seen as a pilot project that could be replicated in other areas in Eastern Visayas. Officials hope the partnership will serve as a long-term model for cooperation between the government and private sector in improving public health services.
The opening of the clinic in 2026 marks a new approach to healthcare delivery in the region, making wellness services more visible, accessible, and part of everyday life.
