Tacloban City — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office VIII officially launched the 36th Civil Registration Month (CRM) on February 9, 2026, at Gaisano Real Capital, making a region-wide push toward digital modernization and inclusive public service delivery.
Under the theme, “Navigating the Future, Together: Advancing CRVS in Shaping the Global and Regional Data Ecosystem,” this year’s celebration underscores the vital role of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) in establishing responsive and data-driven governance systems.
The event commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass followed by a motorcade through major roads in Tacloban City to raise awareness of the significance of registering vital events like births, marriages, and deaths. The formal opening ceremony was led by PSA officials and attended by stakeholders from various sectors.
In her address, Regional Director Wilma A. Perante highlighted the agency’s dedication to modernizing civil registration services through digitalization. She emphasized that the reforms aim to ensure accurate and timely recording of all vital events while enhancing public accessibility to services.
Updates on key technological initiatives were also shared during the event. Officials discussed advancements in the National ID system, including the National ID Authentication Service (NIDAS), and its integration with other government platforms to enhance identity verification processes. Progress under the Civil Registry System–Information Technology Project Phase 2 (CRS-ITP2) was also outlined, focusing on improved system operations and streamlined procedures for clients.
As part of efforts to bolster partnerships at the local level, the PSA introduced the Search for the Most Outstanding Local Civil Registrar to acknowledge outstanding performance among city civil registry offices in the region.
PSA Eastern Visayas stated that activities throughout February will concentrate on promoting birth registration and engaging local stakeholders in advancing civil registration initiatives.
The agency reiterated that registering vital events is not only a legal requirement but also a fundamental right that guarantees every Filipino’s access to essential services and participation in national development programs.
