TACLOBAN CITY — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region 8 officially launched the celebration of Fire Prevention Month 2026 on March 2 at RTR Plaza, kicking off a month-long campaign to raise fire safety awareness and enhance community preparedness in Eastern Visayas.
With the theme “Sa Pag-Iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa,” the event began with a Holy Mass, followed by an opening program and various activities emphasizing the shared responsibility in fire prevention.
A highlight of the event was the “Sayaw Festival Dance Laban sa Sunog 2026,” where teams from different provinces and city fire stations in the region showcased their performances. A motorcade in Tacloban City aimed to raise public awareness and promote community involvement in fire prevention efforts.
Acting Regional Director FCSupt Aldwin M. Salazar, DSC, stressed the importance of unity in achieving the goal of a fire-safe nation, highlighting the significance of technology and equipment in their mission.
As Fire Prevention Month is observed in March in the Philippines, it serves as an opportunity to discuss and educate about fire causes, hazards, and prevention. Proclamation No. 115-A and Proclamation No. 360 designated March as “Fire Prevention Month” or “Burn Prevention Month” to promote safety consciousness and preventive measures year-round.
