Tacloban City — Koalisyong Makabayan has raised concerns about national security and sovereignty after claiming that a Tomahawk missile was reportedly launched from Tacloban Airport towards Laur, Nueva Ecija, at approximately 12:21 a.m. on May 5, 2026.
The group connected the alleged incident to the Balikatan military exercises currently taking place in the country, cautioning that the Philippines is being used as a testing ground for foreign military interests. They highlighted the potential risks to civilians, particularly if military activities are conducted in close proximity to civilian facilities.
Emphasizing that Tacloban Airport is a civilian facility, the group stressed that any military operations involving such locations raise serious concerns about sovereignty and public safety.
Koalisyong Makabayan called for the suspension of the exercises and urged authorities to investigate the reported missile launch, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding national sovereignty and protecting Filipino communities.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation or response from the Philippine Army or the United States Army regarding the alleged missile launch, despite their participation in the ongoing Balikatan exercises in Tacloban.
