Tacloban City – The Department of Education (DepEd) said the new three-term school calendar for School Year 2026–2027 is expected to help lessen interruptions in classes and give teachers and students longer time for lessons.

Public schools in Tacloban City are now preparing for the implementation of the new academic calendar before classes open on June 8.

Department of Education Tacloban Schools Division information officer Nilo Eder said the new setup aims to address the loss of class hours caused by school activities, extracurricular events, and other interruptions.

Under the new setup, the school year will run from June 8, 2026 to April 8, 2027, with 201 days set for classroom instruction.

Eder explained that while the school year will still have four academic quarters, it will now be grouped into three terms.

“Instead of four quarters, the school calendar will now be divided into three terms, which is why it is called a three-term calendar and not a trimester,” Eder said.

Each term will have three parts: the Opening Block for school preparations and learner assessments, the Instructional Block for classroom teaching, and the End-of-Term Block for academic interventions and teacher-related activities.

DepEd said the revised calendar will give schools longer classroom periods and more time for students who need academic support.

To prepare for the change, the division office has been conducting orientation sessions for teaching and non-teaching personnel in the city.

Eder said around 2,000 to 3,000 personnel are expected to complete the orientation through face-to-face and online sessions before the opening of classes.
