Miles Don’t Matter: Gov. RV Evardone Walks to Bring Services to Eastern Samar’s Remotest Community

BRGY. AGSAMAN, JIPAPAD, Eastern Samar — The path to Brgy. Agsaman winds through steep hills and rough terrain, where roads are little more than dirt tracks and travel requires hours of walking even after a long drive from the nearest town center. But for Gov. RV Evardone, distance is never a barrier to keeping a promise – and on July 7, he led the provincial government’s first SeRVisyo Caravan to reach this far-flung community, fulfilling his pledge to bring services to every corner of Eastern Samar.

In a historic visit – marking the first time a governor has set foot in Brgy. Agsaman – Gov. Evardone and a team of provincial personnel, along with partner agencies, made the grueling journey to deliver essential public services directly to residents who have long gone without easy access to government support. Despite the challenges of the rugged route, the caravan pressed on, carrying with it the tools and supplies needed to meet the community’s most pressing needs.

Residents gathered in the barangay hall as the team set up makeshift service stations, bringing everything from medical care to agricultural support. Free medical consultations were offered, along with medicines and vitamins for men, women, and children. The Philippine Statistics Authority was on hand to register births and issue vital documents – a service many families had never been able to access without traveling for days. For local farmers, the provincial government distributed free seeds to help boost crop production, while every household in Brgy. Agsaman received a hygiene kit complete with a medical supply set for emergency care.

As residents lined up to avail of the services, their faces reflected a mix of gratitude and hope. For many, this was the first time they had ever been visited by provincial officials, and they took the opportunity to express their thanks for the support – while also sharing their wish that the roads leading to their community might one day be improved to make travel easier for both residents and service providers.

For Gov. Evardone, the journey to Brgy. Agsaman is more than just a single mission – it is a statement of purpose. When he campaigned for office, he promised that no community in Eastern Samar would be left behind, no matter how remote or difficult to reach. This visit brings that promise to life, demonstrating that the provincial government is willing to go to great lengths to ensure every Estehanon has access to the services they deserve.
