The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided initial aid worth P6.4 million to families affected by Super Typhoon “Uwan,” the agency said on Monday, November 10.

The assistance consists of family food packs and non-food items that were pre-positioned in warehouses across the country before the storm made landfall, DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian said.

The distribution comes as Super Typhoon Uwan continues to affect northern Luzon, where it has caused widespread damage and triggered massive evacuations.

The amount of assistance is expected to increase as relief operations continue, DSWD said.

“We have nearly 2 million family food packs scattered across the country,” Gatchalian said, assuring the public that the DSWD is ready to support local governments.

The department has increased its daily production of food packs from 18,000 to 25,000 to meet demand.

DSWD said the relief effort follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure adequate supplies for calamity-stricken areas.
