Dolores, Eastern Samar — Two suspected members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) were killed in an armed encounter with government troops in Barangay Jicontol, Dolores, Eastern Samar, early Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the 8th Infantry Division (8ID) reported.

Troops encountered the armed group while conducting an operation in the area following information from residents about the alleged presence of armed individuals and planned extortion activities, according to the military.

The 8ID said government forces encountered landmines along the group’s defensive positions. Military aircraft and artillery were deployed during the operation to support ground troops and address the reported threats.

The clash left two unidentified bodies, believed by the military to be members of the armed group, and two high-powered firearms recovered at the site.

No casualties were reported among government troops, the 8ID said.

The military added that pursuit operations against other members of the group were ongoing as of its report. It also said it was coordinating with local officials to address security concerns in nearby communities.

The 8ID urged remaining members of the armed group to surrender, saying government reintegration programs were available to those who wanted to return to civilian life.
