MASLOG, Eastern Samar — Mayor Septemio “Bok” Santiago reported that over 600 residents in the landlocked municipality of Maslog have been impacted by a shearline weather disturbance, leading to preemptive evacuations in various barangays.
The local government swiftly activated disaster response protocols in response to the persistent rainfall threatening communities in low-lying areas and along river systems. Early evacuations were carried out to minimize risks, especially for families residing in flood-prone zones.
According to Situational Report No. 1 from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) released on February 9 at 10:00 a.m., a total of 151 families or 648 individuals were affected. The report highlighted 127 households in four barangays as directly affected.
Barangay 02 Poblacion had the highest number of affected families with 77, while Barangay Libertad had the highest number of affected individuals at 263. Other impacted areas included Barangay 01 Poblacion with 17 families or 88 individuals, and Barangay Tangbo with nine families or 36 individuals.
Pre-emptive evacuations were conducted in parts of Poblacion 1 and Poblacion 2, as well as in Libertad and Tangbo, Mayor Santiago confirmed, noting that barangay officials and emergency responders were deployed to aid displaced families and manage evacuation centers.
Mayor Santiago stressed the municipality’s continued vigilance as weather conditions persist, with the MDRRMO monitoring the situation and coordinating with provincial disaster officers for potential relief efforts.
Residents were advised to stay vigilant, heed official advisories, and cooperate with local authorities as Maslog addresses the impacts of the weather disturbance.
